Nominated by the London Middlesex Immigrant Employment Council (LMIEC), Gus Kotsiomitis was the first regional business leader to step forward and accept an invitation to Chair the LMIEC in 2007. This employer-led initiative has connected hundreds of local businesses and business leaders to Canadian newcomers seeking employment opportunities commensurate with their international training and experience.
Gus has played a significant role in securing the necessary funds for several important recruitment and retention programs and services in our community. He has connected dozens of internationally trained professionals to mentorship and employment opportunities at RBC Royal Bank and forged new partnership opportunities between the LMIEC and the London Chamber of Commerce. Gus has also recently been selected by the Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration to participate on the Ontario Expert Roundtable on Immigration working towards developing an immigration strategy for the province at-large.
The WIL Award is presented annually to individuals in our community who have demonstrated exceptional Winning and Innovative Leadership in assisting immigrants and newcomers. A $500 donation is made in the recipient’s name to a charity of their choice. Gus and his family have chosen to donate these funds back to WIL which will be invested in front-line service delivery to assist more newcomers to our community.
