Mentorship for Newcomer Success Program

In 2008, WIL along with several community organizations combined resources to establish a new volunteer program that will help newcomers establish their own professional identities and contribute to the social and economic health of our community. The Mentorship for Newcomer Success program connects internationally trained individuals with local mentors in their field to gain a better understanding of the local job market; establish valuable networking contacts; and learn more about sector-specific language and professional practice in Canada.

The program is currently seeking community-minded volunteer mentors interested in participating in the program who are:
• Professionals with experience in their field of expertise
• Knowledgeable about their industry sector and the skills required
• Willing to volunteer 24 hours of their time over a 6 month period
• Able to participate in a short training/orientation program (2 hours)

This is a structured program with support available to get participants started. Mentors provide time and business knowledge, and the program sponsors provide advice, ongoing guidance and support, training, tools and tips to help enable a positive experience for all participants.
