Impact of Job Loss on Families

Over the past several years, our community has been significantly impacted by the results of job losses due to changing economic factors.  As we know, the job loss impacts not just on the displaced worker, but the entire family. The need for assistance and services for families coping with life transitions due to job loss is well known in our community.

Family Service Thames Valley is launching a peer support program to assist families living in our community during those challenging times. This project, funded by United Way London & Middlesex, will help those impacted by job loss, to be supported and connected to much-needed existing community resources.

In this peer support model, drop in centres will be established in different locations in the City of London and Middlesex County and future emerging peer leaders will be encouraged to grow their skills and apply to facilitate future peer support meetings in the community.
The Project is guided and supported by an Advisory Council that consists of representatives of Family Service Thames Valley who is the host agency for the project and representatives from other employment support and counselling services.
There are no fees for participants, and information about upcoming meetings will be broadly distributed in the community through media and community partners.
