Job Posting: Employment Counsellor Counselling for Alternative Employment Pathways

A partnership project of WIL Employment Connections, the Access Centre for Regulated Employment provides customized licensure and career development assistance, employment information and referral services to internationally trained professionals seeking licensure or trade certification in one of the provinces regulated professions or trades. We are currently inviting applications for a full time Employment Counsellor for Alternative Employment Pathways (CAEP)

Reporting to the CAEP Team Leader, the CAEP Counsellor is responsible for assisting internationally trained professionals to identify alternative employment pathways until licensure/certification is achieved or viable career alternatives to licensure/certification altogether.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build rapport and develop client-counsellor relationship with professional immigrant job seekers
  • Record, track and follow-up on all clients and employment outcomes within a case management software platform
  • Be responsible for developing a comprehensive inventory of education, skills, experience and alternative employment options for professional immigrant job seekers
  • Provide services one to one and in group format
  • Provide timely access to employment assessment, credential and experience review
  • Provide career counselling and coaching to develop realistic and viable alternative employment options
  • Collaborate with clients to develop personalized alternative employment Pathway Maps
  • Provide thorough case management for internationally trained individuals seeking licensure/certification and professional employment in Ontario
  • Identification, advocacy and referral to appropriate community resources to assist individuals in meeting employment goals
  • Maintenance of records, delivery of contracted reports and timely follow-ups with all clients
  • Set and achieve targets
  • Team collaboration and committee participation
  • Participate in CAEP outreach events and activities

The Successful Candidate will possess:

  • Post-secondary education with emphasis in human services and/or employment counselling
  • Experience in the field of employment counselling for internationally trained individuals seeking to become successfully employed in Canada
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and technical ability
  • Excellent organization, planning and superior time management skills
  • Proficient in the use of databases, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software
  • An understanding of case management and the ability to utilize advanced computerized data management software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of client information at all times
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local and regional labour market
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local and regional employment, education and training resources available for internationally trained individuals
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s regulatory and trade certification processes
  • Ability to effectively contribute to a team environment
  • Knowledge and experience with various social media platforms
