The federal government has announced several changes to Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program in response to recent criticism that the program helps suppress wages and allows employers to skip over Canadians in favour of hiring foreign workers.

On Wednesday, September 26th, Anne Langille (Executive Director, WIL Employment Connections) and Steve Cordes (Executive Director, Youth Opportunities Unlimited) cut the ribbon to officially re-open The Skill Centre Employment Resource Centre in downtown London.
WIL is offering a new 1-week Computer Literacy Workshop beginning October 9, 2012. This workshop has been designed for immigrant clientele with little or no previous experience working with computers. The workshop involves 25 hours (one full week) of class time (Monday to Friday 9:30am to 3:00pm).

Gus was presented with the 2012 WIL Award at our Annual General Meeting held on June 21, 2012.
The London Middlesex Immigrant Employment Council (LMIEC) Job Match Network will provide an integrated job matching service for internationally trained immigrants (ITIs) and employers in the Greater London Area.
By actively connecting an expanded talent pool of multiple agencies with job orders from multiple employer entry points, this project will result in more job orders being filled, increased employer satisfaction, sustained newcomer engagement and improved labour market outcomes for ITIs.
Thanks to funding provided by RBC Royal Bank, the London Middlesex Immigrant Employment Council (LMIEC) is connecting successfully employed skilled immigrants with job-seeking newcomers in our community. RBC has provided $33,000 to establish the LMIEC Peer Mentorship for Immigrant Employment program. The program will facilitate 25 Peer-to-peer matches in London-Middlesex. It is anticipated that this initiative will lead to the direct employment of 20 skilled immigrants in our community.
